Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation
The Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation recognizes the critical importance of effective transitions for children’s school success and has raised awareness of the fact that too many children make the move to kindergarten without the resources and supports they need. In 2014, the Foundation launched its District-Based School Transitions Initiative to support school districts and/or charter schools in efforts to effectively bridge the gap between preschool and kindergarten. Calling on districts to align their efforts to existing state and local school readiness policy, ground their work in research-based best practices, and adapt a community-wide approach to establishing partnerships with preschools and other stakeholders, the initiative is now entering its second year, moving from planning to implementation. School Readiness Consulting has worked with the Foundation over the course of the initiative, beginning with targeted technical assistance and resources designed to support each district’s initial planning process. As districts move into the implementation phase, SRC continues to provide resources, tools, technical assistance and learning opportunities designed to help each grantee execute plans and establish a comprehensive approach to effective school transitions.
