SRC Action

We created SRC Action as a way to channel our efforts to enact change within our communities, both individually and collectively.

Every team member has the opportunity to voluntarily participate in the cornerstone of SRC Action—Action Projects. This could look like paid time off for volunteer work, a month long sabbatical, or a matching donation to a mission-aligned organization.

Community Engagement

We organize opportunities for our team to collectively plan and contribute to efforts that strengthen early learning in our local community. We also provide individual action grants (funding and/or paid time off to volunteer) for team members to engage in activities that align with our mission.

Social Media Campaign | 2021

We contributed to the DC Area Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action by joining the conversation and sharing stories via social media. 

Reading Guide | 2021

We developed a reading guide to be used with Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea and donated books to local early childhood centers.   

Advocacy | 2022

In partnership with MomsRising, we headed to Congress to raise awareness about the benefits of Build Back Better, including childcare and pre-K, paid family/medical leave, and home care support.

Racial Identity Development and Literacy Support | 2022

A team member visited Jones Beaupierre Primary School in Dominica to provide their school library with books that highlight Black identity and Black joy.

Sabbaticals


We believe in opportunities to step away from the day-to-day of work at SRC. During a sabbatical, team members might dive into learning something new, teach others something they know, or have a new experience. Overall, a sabbatical offers the chance to simultaneously spend time making the world a better place and take a break from the typical work day.

Promoting and expanding Spanish-speaking, dual language, and bilingual children's early literacy

“I pursued a project focused on exploring Spanish-bilingual children’s early literacy where I researched and reviewed (with the help of my 3-year old twin children) over 60 books with the goal of creating a list of recommended bilingual and Spanish-language books for young children. Factors I considered included: appropriateness and appeal for young children; features of anti-bias storytelling; complexities of language in publishing, particularly whether books were authentically written in Spanish or translated; topics covered in the books and their relevance for young children; and characteristics of the characters in the stories told. By the end of my sabbatical, I realized this would continue to be an ongoing exploration. I’m very grateful to have had the time to explore children’s literature so closely, as this is a topic I am very passionate about.”

The importance of playful learning and how informal public spaces and institutions are contributing to creating a more holistic and equitable system of development and learning

“My sabbatical combined a long term interest in play and how trusted public institutions contribute to elevating informal play-based learning as part of the early learning system. I had the opportunity to delve deeply into the Playful Learning Landscapes movement—creating spaces that ‘marry the science of how children learn with urban design and placemaking.’ I learned about innovative, community-led work taking place around the globe to create spaces where communities naturally gather that invite interaction and exploration and in the process build important fundamental learning skills. I obtained a rich collection of images and anecdotes from around the globe . . . and a renewed passion for learning more and a commitment to doing my part to move this valuable work forward in a rapidly changing world.”

Matching Donations

We proudly support organizations that align with our vision and mission of equity and social justice. To that end, we have established a program to match contributions dollar for dollar up to $5,000 per year to organizations that employees support financially. We’ve supported more than 50 organizations since 2020.
