Children are at the center of what we do. School Readiness Consulting is founded and run by early childhood education experts and leaders who envisioned a better way to provide practice-based support, policy and systems consultation, and program evaluation. School Readiness Consulting has partnered with urban school districts to national non-profits serving children and families in pursuit of our mission. To date, we have partnered with 50 school districts, over 400 schools, and over 1,100 classrooms in 20 states, Washington D.C and the U.S. Virgin Islands, touching the lives of over 600 administrators, 2,200 teachers and 35,000 children.
Our work is helping to shape the field of early learning:
- Teachers in our Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center outperform their peers in teaching concept development, language modeling, and providing rich quality of feedback to their students. Our schools’ CLASS averages for instructional support are twice as high as the national average.
- We contribute to the development of systems and policy that support children and families through our work with BUILD to include the voice of families in the Kindergarten Entry Assessment process.
- We inform classroom practice by drawing from the latest research on the science of early childhood education, leadership development and school improvement to support Common Core readiness. We are the developer of a comprehensive ECE instructional coaching model for DC Public Schools. To date, over 5,000 children and 30 coaches have benefitted from our instructional coaching model and training program in 85 schools across Washington DC.
- We conduct evaluation across the spectrum of early childhood settings, from public and charter school settings to Head Start and community based programs, including a partnership with AIR on an Investing in Innovation (i3) evaluation, assessing nearly 10,000 children in 75 schools across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.
Capacity building is a holistic approach to district, school or program improvement that begins with needs assessment, builds internal leadership, and leaves a program with the tools, resources, and processes necessary to effectively sustain their own continuous improvement process.
Our consultants have extensive expertise working on domestic and international policy issues related to early childhood development and education. We have served in various roles including White House appointments, positions within Congress, state government and non-profit organizations.
School Readiness Consulting uses evaluation tools to consider a variety of evidence from classrooms. We carefully select evaluation tools or measures within the context of our ongoing professional development goals with clients.
